چکیده

The gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone (lutropin, LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (follitropin, FSH) through their ability to regulate the synthesis of the sex steroids (androgens and estrogens), are indispensable for proper gonadal development and function(1). The synthesis and secretion of gonadotropins are regulated by the hormones produced by the pituitary itself (such as follistatin and activin), as well as the hormones from the hypothalamus and the gonads(2,3,4,5,6). This tripartite regulatory network is known as the hypothalamuspituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis (Fig. 1).

Screening and Testing Methods and Endpoints for Evaluating Endocrine Disruptors 3-1 3. Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone:Gonadotropin:Sex Steroid Signaling Pathway

1. In vertebrates, reproduction is primarily controlled by the HPG axis and, the structure of this endocrine pathway is highly conserved in jawed vertebrates (gnathostoma). The hypothalamic neuroendocrine system regulates synthesis and release of the gonadotropins, follicle-stimulating-hormone (FSH) and LH, from the pituitary, which in turn stimulate gonadal development, in particular via the i...

Investigation of genetic factors associated with polycystic ovary syndrome

Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders and causes 75% of infertility due to ovulation disorders in reproductive age. Women with PCOS have oligomenorrhea and hyperandrogenism that affect their quality of life and fertility at the same time. This syndrome has been one of the most controversial endocrine issues for many years. Research today su...

Molecular regulation of gonadotropin secretion by gonadotropin-releasing hormone in salmonid fishes.

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) plays a central role in the control of reproductive function in vertebrates. In salmonids, salmon GnRH (sGnRH) secreted by preoptic GnRH neurons regulates gonadal maturation through stimulation of synthesis and release of pituitary gonadotropins (GTHs). In addition, several lines of our evidence indicate that sGnRH is involved in spawning behavior, and serv...

Peritoneal adhesion and angiogenesis in ovarian carcinoma are inversely regulated by hyaluronan: the role of gonadotropins.

Ovarian carcinoma is the leading cause of death among gynecologic cancers. Although transformation of the outer ovarian epithelium was linked with ovulation, the disease is significantly more prevalent and severe in postmenopausal women. We postulated that menopause could augment ovarian cancer progression through the effects of gonadotropins on multifocal seeding to the mesothelial layer linin...

Pathophysiological mechanisms of gonadotropins– and steroid hormones–related genes in etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome

Objective(s): Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinopathy in women, which, unlike its impact on fertility and health of women, there is no clear understanding about the causal mechanisms of this pathogenesis. The aim of this review paper is to investigate the pathophysiological pathways affecting the PCOS etiology, based on functions of gonadotropins– and steroid hormones–related gene...
